フォーク・リヴァイヴァル／プロテスト・ソング・ブームが興隆を極めた1962年からその後88年までの間、ニューヨーク州ニューヨーク市において刊行されていたアンダーグラウンド・フォーク・マガジン〈ブロードサイド〉。本作はそのブロードサイドの歴史における主要音源および主要記事を集大成化したボックス・セットだ。収録は〈プロテスト・ソングの父〉ことピート・シーガー、〈歌うジャーナリスト〉フィル・オークス、社会運動家としても知られる〈ジャズ・ディーヴァ〉ニーナ・シモンを筆頭に、70年代には日本でも人気を博したジャニス・イアンによる社会的重要ナンバー、〈ブラインド・ボーイ・グラント〉名義で吹き込んだ若き日のボブ・ディランによる貴重な歌声など、非商業化音源も含むＣＤ５枚組全89曲を収録。当時の誌面のグラフィックスを掲載したブックレットでは、各ミュージシャン／収録曲概要なども語られている。反核運動、ヴェトナム反戦運動、公民権運動と連動し、アメリカン・フォーク／プロテスト・ソングが大ブームを迎えた激動の60年代から、ジェンダーなどの新しい課題が発生していくまでの米国プロテスト・フォークの変遷を追うことが出来る、資料価値の高い作品だ。
